1960s: Dawn of the Information Age


Feb 1961 Large-scale general-purpose transistor-based computer, FACOM 222, is developed.
Mar 1961 Restructuring establishes engineering department framework, focusing on communications manufacturing and electronics manufacturing departments, to take advantage of growth opportunities.
May 1962 Fujitsu Laboratories is created as internal organization.
Nov 1962 "Fujitsu Limited" is adopted as official English corporate name.
Oct 1963 Japan's first computer export, the FACOM 212 parametron computer is shipped to customer in the Philippines.
Apr 1964 Japan's first data communications system is deployed.
Sep 1965 FACOM 230 series of general-purpose mainframe computers is launched. FACOM 230-10, the smallest model in the series, receives 1,000 orders in its first five years on the market, becoming the best-selling computer in Japan.

Mar 1966 Nagano Plant opens for mass production of computers.
Aug 1966 Kawasaki integrated circuits plant is completed. Mass production begins.
Mar 1967 First international branch is opened in New York.
Jun 1967 Company formally changes Japanese name to Fujitsu Kabushiki Kaisha (Fujitsu Limited).
Sep 1967 Aizu Plant established for mass production of acoustic equipment and semiconductor components.
Jul 1968 Fujitsu California Inc. (currently Fujitsu America, Inc.) is established.
Oct 1968 Minamitama Plant opens for mass production of data transmission terminals.
Nov 1968 Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. is spun off as an independent company.
